4.48 PSYCHOSIS
a play by SARAH KANE
directed by PAMELA RECKAMP
4.48 PSYCHOSIS was the final play of Sarah Kane's brief career. Written from the point of view of someone with severe clinical depression, a condition from which the playwright suffered, the title of the play is derived from the time – 4:48 a.m. – when the playwright often awoke with "a moment of clarity." SATE was granted permission to present this play by Kane's brother based on an extensive proposal by the company. Pamela Reckamp, the production's director, says, "As a movement-based company, the Ensemble is thrilled to bring Kane's vivid imagery and stark poetry to a physical place. There are elements of our ongoing training in Viewpoints, you can see the strength derived from Suzuki training and we've even drawn from the kind of movement seen in Pilobolus."
